The War Museum

Tuesday May 1, 2012: The War Museum: The first photo is a picture in front of The War Museum looking down the War Parade at the Parliament House. The next photo shows the Vietnam Memorial, one of the many beautiful memorials located along the War Parade leading up to The War Museum. Photo number three is a picture of The Eternal Flame at The War Museum located in front of the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.  We thought it was interesting that the United States has an Eternal Flame in Arlington and a tomb of an Unknown Soldier too. The last photo is displaying the Roll of Honour which displays the names of every Australian serviceman and service woman who died during war. People who wish to pay respect to a loved one who lost their life during a war can place a poppy next to their name on the wall.  Our tour guide at the museum informed us that on this Australian ANZAC Day, which is on April 25thof each year,  25,000 people arrived at the War Museum before dawn to hold a candle and watch the sunrise to pay tribute to all those involved in Australian war.  We couldn't even image 25,000 people with candles standing in silence on the lawn. It must have been a breath-taking sight to see.
