The Blue Mountains

Saturday April 28, 2012 - Blue Mountains National Park

Today, we took a train or a rail (as Australians call it) from Sydney to Katoomba.  Here we met Dindy, our national park tour guide who showed us around the Blue Mountains and the rainforest. We could see the blue tint color rising from the trees and Dindy explained this is why the Blue Mountains got their name the Blue Mountains. She further explained that the blue color comes from the eucalyptus trees as their essential oils impart a blue tint to the air.  The third picture is displaying 'The Three Sisters' landmark, and of course we needed a picture of the three sisters, with 'The Three Sisters'.This is a very well known landmark in the Blue Mountains. Dindy told us that many years ago there used to be seven sisters, however over time from erosion and unstable rock formations, four of the pillars have collapsed. After overlooking the top of the plateau we walked out of the dry forest, down into the canyons and gorges, and then into the wet rainforest.  Dindy explained the rainforest's vegetation and some species to the group. We observed some great scenery and beautiful waterfalls.
