We encounter many unique birds as we travel:
Sulfur-crested cockatoos, Sydney Botanical Gardens, 29 April. |
I uploaded a video clip of some of these birds onto You Tube as well. I'll see if I can link that here in another post. The birds are pecking at the ground, apparently feeding.
Black Swan, Taronga Zoo. 27 April. |
The black swan is one of my favorite Australian birds.
Bird Sanctuary at Michaelmas Cay, 10 May. |
Michaelmas Cay is our first stop on the Reef cruise with Passions of Paradise. The sanctuary is off-limits, but is easily visible from the beach. There are thousands of birds of all sorts; the noise is just incredible.
Galah, Australian Zoo, 7 May. |
With a wingspan of over 30 feet, the giant man-eating Major Mitchell cockatoo at Australian Zoo demands two tourists as a sacrifical tribute. Yet another danger of the outback.
